Birth Courses

I offer Weekend Birth Workshops and Birth Consultations.

Weekend Birth Workshop

The course is held in English and runs over one weekend from 10.00 to 17.00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
During the week following the course the group also meets for an evening visit to the hospital.
This is a course primarily designed for couples. However if you either do not have a partner, or if your partner is unable to attend, you are very welcome to come alone or with another support person.

The aims of the course are to:

• enhance your understanding of the process of birth by looking at the way birth is designed to work, what happens during labour and how it might feel 


• enable you to explore ways to help yourselves during labour using both non-medical and medical pain relief, support each other and work as a team with your medical carers 


• increase your confidence to make your own choices for labour and baby care  


• prepare you for the particular challenges of early parenting


• provide you with a good opportunity to meet and make friends with other expectant parents

The cost of a Group Course is 2500kr per couple. Your course fee includes a file of useful written information; running refreshments and a delicious vegetarian lunch on both days; plus unlimited support in the early weeks after the birth (should you need it).

Birth Consultation

If you are expecting a second or subsequent baby a Weekend Course can be very useful:

• It might help you understand the events of your previous birth or births.


• It will remind you of the facts and choices surrounding birth and babycare.


• It will give you information about having a baby in Stavanger and the ways in which this might differ from where you previously gave birth.


• It will give you a welcome space in your busy week to devote time to this new baby.


• It will give you the chance to meet other parents expecting babies at the same time..
  

However if you feel that, as you have given birth before, you don't need a full course then you can book a Birth Consultation.
This is usually at your own home to save you getting a baby sitter and  takes 1, or sometimes 2, evenings.
We will talk through your previous experiences and prepare for this new baby.
I can also come with you on a visit to the hospital if you would like me to.

The cost of a Birth Consultation is 1000kr - 1500kr per couple depending on the amount of hours.
