Birth Courses I offer Group Courses, Individual Courses and Birth Consultations. Read the information below to decide which would be right for you. Group Course The course is held in English and is 6 to 8 weeks long depending on the size of the group. The classes are in the evenings, either Mondays or Wednesdays, and normally from 19.00 to 21.00. This is a course primarily designed for couples. However if you either do not have a partner, or if your partner is unable to come to all the classes, you are very welcome to come alone or with another support person. The aims of the course are to: enhance your understanding of the process of birth by looking at the way birth is designed to work, what happens during labour and how it might feel  enable you to explore ways to help yourselves during labour using both non-medical and medical pain relief, support each other and work as a team with your medical carers  increase your confidence to make your own choices for labour and baby care   prepare you for the particular challenges of early parenting provide you with a good opportunity to meet and make friends with other expectant parents Towards the end of the course we have a visit to the maternity ward at Stavanger hospital. The classes are usually held either at the PWC clubrooms on the British School site in Gausel or at my home in Tananger. Click on Directions  to find out how to get to both these locations. If the group is small another option is to hold the course at the home of one of the participating couples. The cost of a Group Course is kr 2000 per couple.   Individual Course If you are too close to your due date for a group course or if you would prefer to have a private course then another option is an Individual course. We can usually cover the information you need in a shorter time so this course takes 4 evenings plus another evening to visit the hospital. An individual course is usually in your own home. The cost of an Individual Course is kr 2000 per couple.   Birth Consultation If you are expecting a second or subsequent baby a Group Course can be very useful: It might help you understand the events of your previous birth or births. It will remind you of the facts and choices surrounding birth and babycare. It will give you information about having a baby in Stavanger and the ways in which this might differ from where you previously gave birth. It will give you a welcome space in your busy week to devote time to this new baby. It will give you the chance to meet other parents expecting babies at the same time.. However if you feel that, as you have given birth before, you don't need a full course then you can book a Birth Consultation. This is also usually at your own home to save you getting a baby sitter and  takes 1, or sometimes 2, evenings. We will talk through your previous experiences and prepare for this new baby. I can also come with you on a visit to the hospital if you would like me to. The cost of a Birth Consultation is kr 800 per couple.
