 Baby Music

Every Tuesday morning from 10.30 until 12.30.

This is an informal music class for mums (and/or dads) with babies from birth up to about 18 months. There's no need to book - just come along! You don't have to stay for the whole two hours: you are welcome to stay for as long or as short a time as you want.
We sing simple, rhythmical songs together mostly in English and one or two in Norwegian. You can have fun with your baby, meet existing friends and make some new ones.
You don't have to be able to sing or to be word-perfect.
There is a song sheet you can print out from this website but it is only to enable you to sing the songs with your baby at home if you want to:
Song Sheet
We sing for about the first 20 minutes then I will serve you coffee and cakes and try to help you relax and have a little break.
You can chat to other people who have young babies and who can share and understand some of the same concerns.  It is well documented that the best support a new mother can have is from other new mothers! And, of course, it is often simply helpful just to get out of your own house and have somewhere else to go!
There is a basket of toys for the older babies to play with and a small library of books and pamphlets about babycare and early parenting which you are welcome to borrow from.
If you have things that you need to discuss I am a good listener and can perhaps make some helpful suggestions or you might get ideas from other people.  It is always useful to talk to people whose babies are a few weeks or months older than yours so that you have some insight into how your baby will develop and what his or her needs might be.

Cost
A single session costs 100kr or you can buy 6 sessions for 500kr.
You can use these 6 sessions at any time: you don’t have to come every week and there is no time limit.
I will keep a record of how often you come so you don’t have to remember that either.

Venue
Baby Music takes place at my own house which is at Einervegen 31b, Tananger.
To find out how to get here go to Directions

''Through music activities children learn pre-language skills naturally- listening, paying attention and concentrating -which lead to anticipating what comes next and being able to follow directions.  All these things form the foundation for learning conventional communication.  Rhythm and melody, repetition, non-verbal responses, vocal play (nonsense), physical contact and an awareness of the appropriate timing for actions or words all contribute to your child's later conversational skills.  Initally you will be the 'Entertainer' -providing all the music, actions and words. Then you will be the 'Director' - helping your child to do some of the motions. Eventually you will become the 'Responsive Partner' - adapting musical activities to encourage your child to take an active part and allowing her to take her turn: just as happens in a conversation!''
